Judge - Paul Root
Not long ago, Gary Szymczak & Lew Bunch waxed eloquently on Canadian Hospitality. I would "Echo" those sentiments and add to them. I had the pleasure of Judging 2 Canadian Specialties within a month. I did Vancouver, BC and then Calgary. My wife, Jennifer did the Futurity in Calgary before my Specialty. This was "Tres kewel". Getting to Calgary is fun…you're in a plane and looking out the window at the beautiful green farmland, farmland, farmland, City, and then more…farmland. Calgary just appears out of the Green. It's a clean, lovely City, with citizens to die for. The food was "awesome"…Prime rib like I haven't had for a while. Its called Alberta Beef. We also went to this quaint little "Tea Room" in Okotoks and the food was magnificent. Our Hostess was the lovely and kind Margaret Devetton of Calgary fame…"Thanks Margaret"…

But…I did go to judge a Dog Show…

1st 12-18 DOG…WINNER'S DOG & BOW: Lindaus's Thief Of All Hearts. Nice young dog. Correct in temperament, movement, and structure. In Winners, he just kept getting better. He did it loose and rallied over some other fine dogs…pointing was the easy thing to do!

1st JUNIOR PUPPY (6-9)…RESERVE WINNERS DOG…BEST PUPPY: Kilmarvdon's Azydeco Kijoda. This is a super young dog. It's not often I give a Junior puppy a 5 Point Major Reserve. He has style, attitude, and a gait to satisfy the request of any Standard…Canadian, American, or SV.

1st CANADIAN BRED BITCH…Winners Bitch: Woodside's Angel Street…Type, type, type, and she can move, move, move! I think that sums it up rather well. She did it loose and was an "Eye catcher". This is one Lovely bitch.

1st 12-18 BITCH…RESERVE WINNERS BITCH: Shadowacre's Signature File… A lovely dark bitch that says…"Look at me" and I did. She won a strong class and did almost as well in Winners…save one!

BEST OF BREED: I want to preface my critique of this Class by offering my appreciation to the exhibitors who made this the "Best Class of the Day". It was my privilege to judge 11 Specials. The class was deep and due to its size and Canadian rules, I was allowed to issue an Award of Merit. "Thank you all!"

BEST OF BREED: Sel. CH Woodside's Easy Street…Had I seen her before? Yes. What were the results? Best of Breed. Do I like her??? I do. She was almost 5 years old this day. She took the Breed the next day, too…under Kathy Potter. She is the epitome of Elegance, Style, and Movement. She was in excellent condition and made ME proud and I don't own her. She was handled to perfection by Jodi Belanger…

BEST OPPOSITE SEX: CH. Rockannand's Integra… This 6-year-old dog is a tribute to our Breed. I gave his son, CH. Rockannand's Patent the Breed at the BC Specialty, 2 weeks before this show. He is a "Stallion Male" with a correct head, beautiful coat, and he still moves like a youngster. Little else need be said!

CH. Adorable's Sharp Cat…Award of Merit…Although I had many fine animals that stood out in my mind…this was one of the Best. Her "work ethic was to die for". Her body was juz fine…too. She took the ring in effortless strides and on a loose lead. Wow…what a girl!

I wish to thank the members of the Wild Rose GSDC for the opportunity to Judge your show. Your hospitality will remain "legend" in my mind. Nothing was left to chance and the dogs were of quality equal to your efforts.
